Modes of Rhetoric (Literature & Language Coursework)
We have now watched and read several different "texts" that all have nuanced, but similar, central arguments. Consider the Lobster, Fed Up, Meet Your Meat, and The Scarecrow all criticize our current food system, and question the ethics of eating industrial produced food and meat. Even the two food porn articles criticize our food system (in a slightly different way).
Offer some thoughts and reflection on these ideas, using and quoting the texts for examples:
1. How did these different forms and strategies of communication affect you? Which did you find particularly convincing, provocative, and persuasive? Why?
2. What differences did you notice in how the creators created their arguments and presented their support?
3. Takeaway: What can you take away from this first unit in terms of writing and thinking? Instead of being particular to each piece here, think bigger picture. How have these different rhetorical styles and strategies changed the way you think about writing and thinking, and how might you use them to develop your own?

The strategy I found more provocative and persuasive was “The Scarecrow” video. The video clearly shows how food industries lie to the masses that the foods and meats they offer are all natural while in real sense, these industries add harmful chemicals to meats and foods behind the scenes. For example, the video shows a person injecting his chicken with some chemical in a syringe while another uses machines to draw milk from cows. Through this, the video convinces us that the rot in our food system directly contributes to the major health problems affecting most Americans today.
There are differences in how the creators created their arguments and presented their support. In “Meet Your Meat”, the creator begins by noting that many people have reverted to not eating meat because of the anima...
