4) For this essay, you will begin by choosing a topic from the list provided in the “Persuasive Essay: Topic and Audience Worksheet.” If you would like to write about a topic that is not on the list, you may propose it within the worksheet.
5) Next, take a position on your topic by deciding if you are for or against the topic or agree or disagree with specific issues related to the topic. This would be considered the “argumentative position.” This position should be an informed decision. Demonstrate clarity and logic when contemplating the most logical position to take within an argument in the topic selected.
6) The goal of this essay is for you to persuade your audience to agree with your position. Your written essay should demonstrate critical inquiry strategies by adhering to the following critical thinking principles which will be studied throughout the course:
a) Manage emotions and avoid fallacies.
b) Provide a synthesis of facts and evidence to support your position based on historical current, reliable and valid information.
c) Acknowledge other perspectives and evaluate assumptions about the topic.

Games and sports have become significant aspects of education and students' interactions in colleges and other levels of education. Over the years, numerous changes have been introduced to support the quality of sports and games in collage and other learning institutions. Firstly, creating favorable learning curricula has helped promote sports, games, and other forms of physical education in college. Creating a culture of competition in college sports has helped promote games and sports among students. According to Sorkkila et al. (2020) initiation of policies on physical education has also provided a reliable guideline for promoting sports and games in college and other levels of learning. According to Sorkkila et al. (2020), athletics has become popular in college and other middle and high learning institutions. However, poor athlete compensation has remained a major issue facing college sportsmen and women. Various studies have evidenced the association between being a college athlete and difficulties in learning. For instance, being a college athlete requires learners to spend significant hours training, keeping fit, and participating in various internal and external competitions. Consequently, College athlete sacrifices their free time to study and compensate for the time taken on the sport. Increasing compensation for college athletes is necessary to compensate for low grades while pursuing the sport, lack of free time, and appreciating their efforts in advocating for fitness and a good lifestyle.
College athlete faces the risk of getting low grades by pursuing the sport. Various studies have provided significant insight into poor academic performance in college learning. According to Brown (2022), excelling and balancing athletic and class proficiencies is significantly challenging among most college students. Various facts try to link and explain the causes and scope of poor grades and academic performance among college students. For instance, college athletes spend the most time preparing and training for competitions.
Consequently, continuous energy in sports may limit the time spent on studies, revision, classwork, personal studies, and other engagements that promote college learning.
