The principal-agent relationship and employer-employee relationship reflect that the agents and employees are answerable to the principal and employer. Employees are agents of the principal and gig workers who are independent contractors. One example of gig workers is the Uber drivers who work as independent contractors, which means independent and self-employed. Gig workers are more like independent freelance workers. Employers can be sued for wrongs committed by employees in the normal course of work and based on the scope of employment as employees are agents of the employers. In the gig economy, the independent contractors work for themselves, and there are lax regulations.
