Week 6 Discussion: Transformational Leadership
According to Boamah, Laschinger, Wong, and Clarke (2018), transformational leaders aim to change their followers. Such leaders are required to have certain traits. Firstly, a transformational leader must keep their ego in check. A leader needs to control their ego and not allow it to interrupt with the interests of their units or organizations. This way, the leader can put the organization first instead of their interests. Secondly, transformational leaders are self-manage themselves. This is because they are motivated and utilize this motivation to direct others. Thirdly, they are risk-takers as they trust their instincts, and utilize the information collected from their teams to make decisions as needed. Fourthly, transformational leaders are tough decision-makers since they do not shy from challenges. These tough decisions are made focusing on the organization’s goals, objectives, vision, and values. Last but not least, they are innovators. These leaders know that triumph relies on the whole team and that growth occurs when the culture is flexible to new ideas. Therefore, such leaders solicit new concepts from their teams and use them to make decisions.
