I have learned vital lessons about the approach and personality style to enhance patients’ health outcomes, make effective decisions, and comply with recommended treatment. Regarding delivering “maybe” news, I concur with the need to be gentle and slow and avoid inflammatory statements that could frustrate patients. The justification is that an inappropriate approach to communicating with the patient can result in detrimental ramifications about how they perceive their wellbeing and illness. It could also determine whether the patient would choose to continue with treatment or not. Drawing conclusions about the patient’s condition undermines their trust in the healthcare organization by creating fears.
