Unitary/Transformative Paradigm Models Applicable to Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a care delivery approach driven by the need to leverage the best available evidence to inform decision-making processes and deliver optimal patient care (Li et al., 2019). EBP is anchored on components such as patient values, best research evidence, and clinical expertise (Okoli, 2021). The unitary-transformative paradigm is a philosophical perspective that views human beings as a single entity, developing via the mutual process in which change is creative and volatile and is anchored on human science. Based on this paradigm’s perspective, it is feasible to derive the Aesthetic Nursing practice theory as the most applicable model to evidence-based practice in nursing for specific rationales (Kongsuwan, 2020). First, the model enhances nurse-patient engagement and information-sharing capabilities in healthcare delivery. Second, it is uniquely based on EBP, thus enabling the nurse to interact with the patient holistically to ensure care is delivered based on patient experiences to enhance better health outcomes.
