Reflection Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Component #1: Criterion #1 Offering patient-centered care demands insightful input on multicultural understanding. To provide unbiased and non-judgmental care, a healthcare professional must partake in cultural competence training. Through such training, one can learn about different cultures, religions, and social practices. Such knowledge can be vital when it comes to understanding and respecting individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. The other strategies include engaging in reflective practice, fostering open communication in clinical settings, participating in patient advocacy, and engaging other professionals for support. To address ethical and challenging situations, professionals can resort to the code of conduct and ethics of their professional practice. There are also guiding theories that one can use to address challenging or ethical situations. The other strategies include research, reflective supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Component #2: Criterion #2 The therapeutic client-nurse relationship remains a platform for safe, effective, and culturally sensitive care. To achieve such a relationship, the professional must showcase effective communication skills. Communication skills like active listening, the use of open-ended questions in engagements, and the ability to explain information can create an understanding among parties. Professionals also need skills in collaboration and decision-making to advance stronger relationships. Aspects like sharing information and support of autonomy help to advance client-centered approaches. Also, to build trust and respect, one needs skills in aspects like transparency, honesty, professional demeanor, confidentiality, and empathy. Finally, therapeutic relationships are important for various reasons. Primarily, they enhance patient safety as clients can disclose important information to professionals. Such relationships also steer client-centered care as they empower patients to partake in decisions affecting their health. Additionally, open communication allows for holistic approaches to care thereby leading to positive health outcomes. Component #3: Criterion #3 Brian Sinclair’s case steers the need to enhance patient safety and promote positive outcomes for diverse client populations. One area in which the nurse could have improved patient outcomes would be by showcasing cultural competence and mitigating implicit bias actively. Such a move would involve self-assessments and understanding the clinical environment through culturally diverse lenses. Internal factors like stereotypes can impede client-based decisions in some settings (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2019).
