They are equipped with knowledge and leadership competencies. This paper examines the areas that contribute to transforming a nurse into a leader in the healthcare setting. The paper reflects on personal experience, leadership styles, leadership competencies, and strategies for becoming a nurse leader.  Personal Leadership Experience Formal and Informal Leadership Roles One of my formal leadership roles was to lead a nursing team during critical patient care situations both in the ER and in the trauma unit. I used my communication and relationship-building skills to grab as much information as I could during the arrival of the critical patient. Secondly, I used my healthcare knowledge to initiate primary interventions and avoid critical situations. During such acts, I am responsible for the patient and the nursing team's actions. Therefore, my leadership competencies are crucial for formal leadership in the healthcare units. Efficacy and Comfort as a Leader For this, I must reflect on outcomes from my colleagues, patients, and supervisors. Accordingly, my core strengths as a leader include my ability to stay calm during critical encounters. Moreover, my ability to align my healthcare knowledge with a patient's condition is my second strength. My leadership approach to making informed decisions also adds to the list of efficacies of a leader. Therefore, my role as a leader has been influential regarding patient response and colleagues' and supervisors' feedback. Consequently, I have been comfortable in my leadership role. However, I have to make subsequent developments in work delegation so I can decrease my work pressure and focus on creating a great team of capable nurses. Leadership Style Given my strength in communication, relationship building, and healthcare knowledge, the transformational leadership style aligns best with my leadership philosophy and preference. According to Flaig et al. (2020), transformational leaders are capable of encouraging their teams to make meaningful changes in the workplace. A transformational leader inspires their team through effective communication, charisma, and vision. Such leaders create strong relationships with their subordinates and foster innovation. Subsequently, my leadership strength aligns best with the traits of a transformational leader. For instance, I inspire my team with my actions, communication, vision, and robust healthcare knowledge. Moreover, my determination to continuous improvement is also an add-on to the list of traits. Altogether, my overall philosophy and preference in leadership is well suited to be a transformational leader where I enhance adaptability and resilience. Nevertheless, I want to increase my leadership competence. For this, the democratic leadership style will be best suited for my future area of practice as I want to work on building great teams. Democratic leaders seek input from their teams and value comprehensive collaboration (Flaig et al., 2020). Thus, I want to foster a sense of ownership among my team members for elite productivity.
