Based on the scenario, questions should relate to partners and past history of STIs, as suggested by Workowski et al.'s (2021) Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for the treatment of STIs. It is important to establish the gender and number of my patient's sex partners. This is important in order to avoid making assumptions about the gender identity and sexual orientation of both the patient and her partners. The patient suspects she has contracted an STI as she has been having unsafe sex with several individuals over the last few months. The questions include: (a) What type of sex have you been having over the previous few months – oral, anal, or vaginal? (b) How many sexual have you had in recent months? (c) Could you please share the gender of your sexual partners? (d) Have you ever tested for HIV or STIs? (e) Have you been diagnosed with any type of STI before? If yes, when? And did you get the proper treatment? The patient’s risk factors would affect my screening because they are crucial in correct diagnosis, prevention, and maintaining sexual health.
