Anticoagulants are medications that work by interrupting the processes involved in forming blood clots (Khorana et al., 2019). An example of such a drug is Rivaroxaban. This medication is used to prevent and treat deep venous thrombosis, a condition where dangerous blood clots form in the foot’s blood vessels. This issue may become severe, developing a pulmonary embolism.
Rivaroxaban blocks factor Xa, assisting the body in keeping blood clots from worsening or developing. This medication can be monitored in various ways. For instance, anti-factor Xa activity can be measured to evaluate Rivaroxaban exposure to the body. However, the drug has multiple side effects, including back pain, bloody stool, coughing blood, headache, and vaginal bleeding (Khorana et al., 2019). Bonaca et al.
