* What are your initial reactions to these documentaries and the image?
Ellis Island was created for processing and verifying new immigrants. It was considered to be a safe place for people who emigrated from different countries in the world. It was also one of the best places America could use to regulate the number of immigrants entering the country. After watching the documentaries, I was surprised to see how the screening process was done, and immigrants who were found susceptible to some illness were forced to return to their countries. If one was mentally ill, one would be returned to their country. Immigrants wanted to live in a new nation but practice their beliefs practices but to achieve this, they were supposed to undergo tedious processes of verification and assessment. It is funny how people would endure all the challenges just to be given a chance to live in the United States.

The visits to Ellis Island experienced has addressed the objectives of this learning section on how the inspection of diseases was done to immigrants before they entered the United States. The screening process was thorough so that people with any illness were not allowed into the country. The government's measures during this period prevented the spread of diseases in the country.
* To what extent have the visits to Ellis Island experience added to your knowledge of Community/Public Health Nursing?
The Ellis Island experience teaches the importance of population-focused and community-oriented approaches to promote the entire health of a population and prevent the transmission of diseases and disabilities. The actions taken by the government to vet immigrants protected the safety of Americans because no one was allowed to enter the nation ill.
* What questions do you have?
Do such vetting assessment programs exist today? Are immigrants screened for various illnesses before migrating to the United States today?
* How do the Miss Evers Boys and Tuskeegee presentations align with your knowledge of nursing and Public Health Nursing ethics?
Before performing any experiment on an individual, it is imperative to seek consent. The Tuskegee Syphilis study forces policymakers to redefine and rethink all the practices involving human experimentation in minority groups. Miss Evers was in an ethical dilemma of letting go of the men while they believed they were being cured, yet they were not tested. Before performing or administering any treatment to a patient, I believe one has the right to know and decide. This did not happen during the Tuskegee study because men were told they were being treated, yet it was not the case.

1 Describe the setting. Where is she at? What is she doing?
The setting is the top of a building. The lady is on the rooftop of a building, as seen from the presence of a chimney and the open space. Also, comparing the elevation to the surrounding buildings shows it is a rooftop. It looks like she is trying to cross over from the rooftop of one building to that of another. This is evident from the wall demarcations that surround her.
2 Is this a nurse? Does this fit your perception of a nurse? Does it reflect nursing today? If so, how? How do you think this image relates to this course?
Going by how she is dressed, including the cap, it is almost certain that this is a nurse. She seems to be heading towards a different building through the rooftop, perhaps due to the proximity to the next building from top to bottom. She feels she could save a lot of time by simply crossing over from the top, as maybe using the stairs down and then up again to the next building would be time-consuming and tiresome. Given that she is most likely a nurse, time is of the essence, and every second wasted, life might be on balance somewhere.
This is also indicative of the present nursing situation, where there is an acute shortage of nurses, and nurses, therefore, have to overwork to save lives. Some have to do double shifts, while others have to serve more than one hospital to supplement the numbers needed. Nurses have to go out of their way to help people, often without help or support from the authorities. It is clear from the image that nursing is more like a calling. This image relates to this course because it helps highlight the historical issues that have always affected the nursing field and how things seem to be the same as they seem to change.

* What effect have the documentaries on Social determinants of disease on your perception of the factors that affect overall health?
Social determinants of health include racism, unequal access to healthcare, illiteracy, poverty, and stigma. These are some of the factors that contribute to health inequities. After watching the documentaries, I have realized that social determinants influence a disease's prevalence and affect overall health. Take, for instance, unequal access to healthcare is something that determines the overall health of a community or even a country. Therefore, I think these factors should not be narrowed down to disease but to overall health. This will make it easy for policymakers to formulate policies to address the problem.
* To what extent these social determinants will affect individual and family health assessment?
It is well-known that poverty limits ability for families to live in safe neighborhoods and eat a healthy diet. Additionally, high levels of education influence better health among individuals. However, if a person lacks education, it is impossible to adopt healthy ways of living. At the same time, if a person comes from a minority group, assessing quality healthcare is impossible due to issues like implicit bias.
* As you begin the community assessment of your community, to what extent will awareness of these determinants affect your investigation of community resources and overall health?
The knowledge I have gained about social determinants will help me address the challenges individuals might be facing in terms of healthcare. At the same time, since I understand each determinant, I can offer better solutions for addressing the problems. I will also determine people and communities that need resources more.

After watching the documentary, I have learned that health systems have started to adopt global strategies to change their approach toward the care they offer their patients. Their overall objective is to improve health outcomes. The six videos, specifically, have improved my understanding of community and Global health. They provided an overview of health strategies leaders adopt to improve overall health. At the same time, leaders are using foundational capabilities to redesign care. This is why it is important to develop partnerships to improve within a community.
