The American Nurses Association(ANA) is a professional organization that seeks to grow and protect the nursing profession. It was initially founded in 1896 in New York City as the Nurses Associated Alumnae of the United States and Canada (Fulton, Lyon, & Goudreau, 2014). In 1901, Canada broke away, and the organization was renamed Nurses’ Associated Alumnae.
