Executive Summary
The American Association of Primary Care Providers is a national organization comprising of interns, students, and practitioners from the health care industry. The organization realizes the need to increase the number of primary care providers in the industry to cater for the increasing demand for their services. It is because studies project an estimated requirement of 20,400 primary care providers in 2020 and 45,000 primary care physicians in 2025. As a result, the organization proposes solutions to the United States Department of Health and Human Services with an aim of eradicating the problem. Specifically, the American Association of Primary Care Providers suggests increasing the income for primary care providers, increasing educational funding for primary care providers, and encouraging the use of computer software and mobile applications that will reduce America’s dependence on primary care providers. Critical to the discussion is the fact that the program will be evaluated to identify whether it will be successful.

It is vital to note that membership in the organization is limited to American citizens from the health care profession. A mission of ensuring that all American citizens have access to effective health care by promoting professionalism and pushing for policies that aim to benefit the American health care industry guides the organization. It is notable that the organization was established in 1978 when its founder John McCain realized the need for promoting and professionalism and pushing for policies that would benefit the American health care industry. Since its establishment, the organization played a crucial role in establishing MEDICAID and promoting evidence based care in the health industry. In short, the American Association of Primary Care Providers has benefited, continues, and will continue to benefit the American citizens.
It is imperative to note that the American Association of Primary Care Providers realizes that the future of the American health care industry is endangered if appropriate policies are not implemented. Specifically, the organization acknowledges that the number of American citizens who are constantly affording access to health care services is increasing. This implies that the health care industry should also increase its human resource in order to curb the demand for the increasing need of health care services. It is the reason why the American Association of Primary Care Providers is proposing solutions to eradicate the problem. Specifically, the American Association of Primary Care Providers is making a proposal to the United States Department of Health and Human Services with an aim of solving the problem under discussion.

Primary care services are rudimental for the provision of an efficient and effective health care system. From the definition, it could be deduced that primary care providers are important because they play a crucial role in the provision of health care services. It follows that the nation should equip the health care industry with an adequate distribution and supply of health care providers in order to provide quality health care services to their citizens.
Considering the role of primary care providers in the health care industry, the government must ensure that the number of primary care providers complements the country’s population. Simply put, the government should ascertain that the ratio of citizens to primary care providers is balanced. In order to understand the upcoming discussion, it is vital to define several terms. Consequently, the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Health Professionals (2013) defines the demand for primary care services as the mix and quantity of services the nation is willing to procure based on the country’s economic status, population needs, and technological advancements. It follows that the demand for primary care providers could be defined as the number of physicians required to meet the demand for primary care services. It is the reason why the government must ensure that the number of primary care providers complements its population.is large enough to serve its citizens.
Statement of Need
Pauly, Naylor, and Weiner (2014) reveal that eight million Americans signed up for insurance covers from different sources while an additional three million Americans signed up for Medicaid. The same authors further assert that an estimated thirty million people would gain access to health care services because of the Affordable Care Act. According to McCaffrey (2012) the number of Americans who will gain access to quality health care is likely to skyrocket. As evidence, many enrollees will have health care covers, which imply that many people will seek for health care services that they would have otherwise been unaffordable to them. It follows that that America may experience an increase in the demand for health care services with special attention being directed to the availability of primary care providers. Who will take treat these American citizens? Will the increase in the number of Americans gaining access to quality health care be a problem?
According to Pauly, Naylor, and Weiner (2014), the declining number of physicians, the aging population and the increased insurance covers could be a barrier to accessing primary care in America. For instance, the authors cite that there is likely to be a shortage of 20,400 primary care providers in 2020, which will be the required number to sustain the current waiting times in health care facilities. The authors also cite a different study by mentioning a likely shortage of 45,000 primary care physicians in 2025. This reveals that the declining number of primary care providers could have detrimental effects on the American health care industry. It follows that the relevant government agencies should implement policies to impede or reduce the reduction of primary care providers in the health care industry. It is the reason why the American Association of Primary Care Providers is proposing solutions to the problem even before the problem occurs.
It is imperative to highlight that the demand for an increase in the number of health care providers is not limited to the increasing number of Americans who are affording health care services.
