Research is as a systematic process that involves investigation or probe of questions using strict procedures, to produce answers that are trustworthy and unbiased in nursing practice. The evidence gathered about nursing practice is utilized to evaluate and determine better interventions or solutions to problems. Nightingale introduced research in nursing about 150 years ago. The data collected drove the changes in the nursing practice. During the 1950s, nursing education was introduced in several universities and nursing research became a prominent undertaking. More channels for publishing research findings were established during 1970s and 1980s, expanding the audience for the work (Houser, 2018). The National Institutes of Health (NIH) created the National Center for Research for Nursing in 1986, with several stations across the United States. These centers were later elevated to full institute, and they were renamed to National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) in 1993. This move placed the nursing field equal with medical research and other sciences. The goal of NINR is to enhance nursing care and provide quality services through research (Houser, 2018).
