I was born in 1975 in Dallas, Texas. The infant mortality rate statistics for Dallas is easily accessible. In 1975, Dallas County had 15 infant deaths per 1,000 live births (Texas DSHS, 2023). The infant mortality rate has rapidly declined to 6 per 1,000 live births in 2022 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2022). Dallas County had 229 infant deaths before reaching their first birthday last year. During my birth, the IMR was high. It was attributed to poor pregnancy-related outcomes linked to the prevalence of chronic maternal health conditions. Also, pregnancy obesity that caused complications during pregnancy led to a high infant mortality rate (Salahuddin et al., 2022). Diabetes and hypertension were high among mothers in Dallas, Texas. Further, birth deformities, maternal pregnancy problems, prematurity, sudden infant death syndrome, and respiratory distress syndrome were some of Dallas's main causes of infant mortality.
