The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) explains the pathophysiology of hypertensive conditions. RAAS is a complex process whereby the liver releases the angiotensinogen to cater to low sodium concentration and reduced blood pressure (Marcus et al., 2013). Renin is secreted purposefully to produce angiotensin II, which regulates salt and water to regulate blood pressure. The conversion process is achieved through the release of aldosterone. However, the negative side of RAAS contributes to hypertension and must be adequately monitored to reduce the possible challenges it may have on the body system. Reduced production of renin by the kidney makes the RAAS overreact, producing aldosterone. Therefore, the outcome is vasoconstriction which causes hypertension. The pathological complications are hyperplasia and hypertrophy, caused by extreme damage to the vessel's walls. They may lead to myocardial infarction or heart failure.
