One key barrier to healthcare experienced by lesbians is the belief that routine gynecological care is not needed for protection against STIs. According to Alexander et al. (2020), both healthcare providers and lesbians believe women who have sex with women do not need STI information, screening for cervical cancer, and regular gynecological care. Homophobia among providers also means that lesbians do not receive relevant health information. Health insurance is also a key barrier primarily because many lesbians are not able to share the benefits of their partners (Alexander et al., 2020). In addition, lesbians receive less complete coverage compared to if they had spouses of the opposite gender. In essence, several barriers exist that limit the healthcare experience of lesbians. Question #2: What are some barriers to healthcare experienced by physically challenged women? Physically-challenged women also face significant barriers to healthcare. They face physical barriers such as examination equipment that is difficult to access or is inaccessible (Alexander et al., 2020).
