Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns
A proper assessment of individuals’ health leads to effective diagnosis and treatment of potential diseases. Nurses and other health professionals should always use effective tools or methodologies to understand their patients’ health statuses before commencing the treatment. In particular, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns is one of the best models that nurses can use to assess individuals’ health statuses.
Marjory Gordon came up with Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns to ensure that nurses can provide a comprehensive assessment of their patients’ health. The model has eleven functional health patterns that include the following (Turen & Enc, 2020):
Health management and perception.
Nutritional metabolic.
Elimination.
Activity – exercise.
Sleep – rest.
Cognitive – perceptual.
Role – relationship.
Self-perception.
Sexuality – reproductive.
Stress tolerance.
Value – belief.
