Falls among Old and Geriatric Patients
In nursing practice, accurate identification and application of research is essential to achieving successful outcomes. The ability to articulate research data and summarize relevant content supports the student's ability to further develop and synthesize the assignments that constitute the components of the capstone project.
The assignment will be used to develop a written implementation plan.
For this assignment, provide a synopsis of the review of the research literature. Using the "Literature Evaluation Table," determine the level and strength of the evidence for each of the eight research articles you have selected. The articles should be current (within the last 5 years) and closely relate to the PICOT question developed earlier in this course. The articles may include quantitative research, descriptive analyses, longitudinal studies, or meta-analysis articles. A systematic review may be used to provide background information for the purpose or problem identified in the proposed capstone project.
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Research Questions (Qualitative)/Hypothesis (Quantitative)
Does exercise reduce the risk of falls among older patients, especially among the group-based and home-based exercise programs in relation to usual care?
What types of fall-prevention programs may be effective for reducing injurious falls in older people?
The study seeks to establish the role of exercise and other interventions in the reduction of falls and their associated healthcare costs and adverse health outcomes.
Which factors influence the exposure to falls among geriatric patients after the implementation of falls prevention interventions?
Purposes/Aim of the Study.
ProAct65+ study aims to investigate the effectiveness of a home exercise program and a group-based exercise program, and compared to usual care at increasing moderate to vigorous physical activity. The study intends to examine the trial’s secondary outcomes, which is represented by the effectiveness of the interventions at reducing falls and falls-related injuries.
To evaluate the potential effectiveness of interventions for preventing falls.
The study seeks to establish the role of exercise and other interventions in the reduction of falls and their associated healthcare costs and adverse health outcomes.
The study aimed to evaluate factors that are linked to falls in geriatric inpatients after the implementation of prevention measures.
Design (Type of Quantitative, or Type of Qualitative)
A cluster-randomized controlled trial.
Descriptive study
Descriptive meta-analysis
Descriptive meta-analysis study
It is a qualitative prospective observational study
Setting/Sample
One thousand two hundred fifty-six older adults (aged 65 +) were recruited via general practitioner practicing sites, i.e., London and Nottingham. The study excluded frequent fallers, i.e., those who had more than three falls in the preceding year and those who had an unstable medical condition.
The study is comprised of randomized clinical trials of fall-prevention interventions for participants aged 65 years and older. It is comprised of 54 randomized control trial studies and 41 596 participants.
Several studies were chosen from 1994 to 2015 and subjected to meta-analysis review.
The study is comprised of 788 patients aged 79.5±7.6 years ( χ¯¯ ± standard deviation) (66% women and 34% men) admitted to the sub-acute geriatric ward for assessment in the context of fall-risk evaluation.
