Developing Sampling Strategy

Coursework Instructions:

Develop your own sampling strategy based upon your PICOT question. Read your text book and identify how you will approach the sampling strategy by understanding what the following means. a) parameters or attributes of the study population, b) representative of the defined population, c.appropriateness of the sampling plan to the research design, d) appropriateness and justification of the sample size, and e)evidence that the rights of human participants (subjects) have been protected.

After reading and understanding what the above means, answer the questions below regarding the sampling strategy you will use based on your PICOT question. Support why you chose those answers with evidence-based literature. Provide both in-text citation and a reference list.

A. Define your target population and sample.

B. Discuss your sampling approach in terms of their nature, use, advantages, and disadvantages. e.g. you can choose convenience, or quota, or random or purposive etc.

C. Indicate the inclusion and exclusion criteria.

D. Discuss the factors that influenced determination of sample size.

E. Discuss potential threats to internal and external validity as sources of sampling bias.

F. What is your cosmic Question (This is a question you ask your peers to respond to based on the chapter discussed in class this week i.e. Sampling Strategy).

The aim of the cosmic question you propose should enable others to critique your sampling strategy.

I have attached the PICOT question for your review. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.

* Define your target population and sample.
The target population for this PICOT question is children (or families) within Staten Island, New York. Notably, this would include children from ages 18 and below from parents who are residing within and working within the city.
* Discuss your sampling approach in terms of their nature, use, advantages, and disadvantages. e.g., you can choose convenience, or quota, or random or purposive, etc.
The sampling approach for this research would be randomized sampling. The relatively small and limited population in Staten Island would be more convenient and feasible to research than including the whole residents of New York. This would also increase the sample population's 'representativeness' since the researcher is only aiming for around 300 participants obtained through simple random sampling.
However, one of the disadvantages of using a smaller sample population is the risks of having a biased sampling method. Even if a 'fish bowl' method is used to find the participants, the risks of lack of representativeness are present due to the small sample size CITATION Hir20 \l 1033 (Hirschauer, Grüner, Mußhoff, Becker, & Jantsch, 2020).
* Indicate the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
The exclusion criteria for this study are children suffering from diseases that are causes obesity in children in an uncontrollable (or abnormal) manner. This includes hypothyroidism, Cushing's syndrome, and depression since these kinds of diseases could cause obesity regardless of whether the children and his parents are utilizing PA activities CITATION Kel \l 1033 (Kelishadi & Heidari-Beni).
The inclusion criteria includes those children from Staten island whose parents do not have any Physical Activity (PA) programs that they use in their daily living.
* Discuss the factors that influenced the determination of sample size.
The main factors that influenc...
