Determinants of Health: Income and Social Status

Examining the effect of financial status and societal rank on health will involve the following steps: Initially, recognizing the concern of disparities in financial standing and social position impacting health results and healthcare accessibility. Next, performing an extensive examination of existing research to gather insights and pinpoint areas of ignorance. Thirdly, crafting a well-defined inquiry, such as "How does financial status and societal rank affect health results and healthcare access?" Fourthly, selecting the right study approach, such as cross-sectional or longitudinal, based on the inquiry and the accessibility of data. Fifthly, defining the group to be studied and the sample size and picking participants using an appropriate sampling technique (Kellehear, 2020). Sixth, acquiring data through suitable methods such as surveys, personal interviews, or previously existing data. Seventh, subjecting the gathered information to appropriate statistical analysis to test the research hypothesis and provide answers to the research inquiry. Eighth, evaluating the outcomes by placing them within the framework of the research question and prior knowledge. Ninth, forming conclusions and presenting proposals for future studies and real-world applications to tackle the effect of income and social status in determining health.

Article 1

The paper outlines a process for creating an OHI to monitor health disparities in developing nations. The authors use the BOHI from Brazil as an example for their proposed methodology. The study conducted in Mexico shows that addressing the social determinants of health (SDH) is emphasized at the highest level within the national health policy. There is ample availability of health data and robust information systems required to build an observatory on health inequalities (OHI) (Guerra, Borde & Salgado de Snyder, 2016). Despite the high prioritization of social determinants of health (SDH) and the availability of data and information systems in Mexico, the study highlights the requirement of increasing the expertise in SDH and health inequality research and management across multiple sectors to achieve the objective of promoting fairness and equality through the observatory on health inequalities.

The research determined that individuals with low levels of education, low socio-economic status, and simple job roles experienced negative health results in their later years, including amplified difficulties with mobility and elevated psychological stress. The research revealed a correlation between increased financial resources and better health (Darin Mattsson, Fors & Kreholt, 2017). However, after considering other socio-economic factors, only the relationship between income and health outcomes remained statistically significant.
