Over the years, measures have been employed to improve the healthcare sector. For example, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services employed a policy that will no longer pay for the conditions resulting from poor practice when the healthcare professional serves the patient. These events are usually referred to as the "never events.” However, despite this policy being employed, only a few people know about "never events" and their impact on the workplace. The “never events” refers to extremely rare medical errors that should never occur to a patient. The paper will discuss the never events and their impact on the workplace.
One of the common never events occurs during surgical procedures. Even though there are many other never events, surgical events are common. For example, there have been various scenarios where the healthcare professional has left a foreign object inside the patient's body after the surgery (Winingham, 2020). Even though the healthcare professional is supposed to check the patient's body to ensure that there is no foreign object that has been left there, there are some instances where some healthcare professionals make this mistake. This mistake usually exposes the patient to infections. Moreover, if it was a sharp object, it could lacerate some vital organs. The patient may also complain of excruciating pain, which can interfere with normal functioning.
The other common never events usually happen during blood transfusion. There have been instances where the doctor provides the wrong blood type in a transfusion. Since transferring the wrong blood type can harm the patient, healthcare providers are supposed to be more careful.
