Values Clarification  Name Institution Course and Code Professor Date Values Clarification  Paragraph 1 Nurses have control over their clinical duties and their main responsibility is to provide safe and appropriate care to deserving clients and patients. As a result, they act according to the values they have chosen. These include sympathy, human dignity, autonomy, and altruism. I believe personal value systems greatly affect the way nurses practice by providing a structure to assess their actions that impact their approaches, aims, and functions (Shahriari et al., 2013). They can also rely on them as a valuable resource to enhance their clinical ethical skills. Moreover, they help them in handling contemporary ethical concerns that they face in their day-to-day practice. Paragraph 2 I discovered that my values are deeply intertwined with my professional identity as a nurse. The exercise prompted me to reflect on what I hope others see in me (trustworthiness and compassion), and how I foster positive nurse-patient relationships by being present and actively listening. One question that stood out was about daily actions reflecting health values. It made me realize that I prioritize self-care through physical activity and mindfulness practices. The values of integrity, empathy, and respect emerged clearly. An additional question I would ask myself is: How do these values influence the way I handle challenging situations in nursing? Paragraph 3 I found that my personal and professional identities share common traits, such as being reliable, thoughtful, and self-controlled. However, I also noticed differences between the two roles, where I am more independent and ambitious personally, while professionally I lean toward being more compassionate and helpful. I am content with these patterns, though I aim to become more assertive both personally and professionally to advocate more effectively for patients and myself. The values reflected in these patterns include empathy, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility. One inconsistency I have identified is sometimes struggling to balance assertiveness with compassion, which I am working to address. As a nurse, I believe qualities like empathy, reliability, and assertiveness are crucial for building trust and providing high-quality care. Paragraph 4 This exercise helped me understand how I prioritize certain values in my personal and professional life. On a nursing team, I would be most angry with a nurse that never completes assignments. This made me realize that I value accountability and teamwork. Regarding my health, I realized I value honesty and transparency. This is because I would prefer to be told directly if I had a serious health issue. In my work, the ability to communicate skillfully and easily with patients is what makes me the happiest, which reflect my values of empathy and connection. The most difficult task for me would be working in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) full time, as the emotional intensity might conflict with my need for balance.Paragraph 5 This exercise confirmed that I value balance, independence, and ongoing professional development. I support joining professional organizations but not excessively, as I believe in selective membership that aligns with my goals.
