Gambling in Sports Name Institutional Affiliation Course Name & Number Professor Due Date Should some sports gambling be legalized? No sports gambling of any kind should be legalized as gambling is considered a form of cheating, which would violate the integrity of the sport and bring in unfairness and lack of opportunities for some players to be the best and display their skills when actions such as match-fixing and throwing the game are available options to get money (Champion, Karcher & Ruddell, 2019, slides 5&8). Also, the addictive nature of gambling would worsen the already desperate situation. Sports gambling addiction would ruin society by making people prone to addiction to aggressively bet and spend money meant for family, food, and school on betting. Consequently, this would result in widespread addiction, debt, and other negative consequences to families, people, and society.  What are the pros and cons of allowing legalized gambling in both professional and amateur sports? Proponents of legalized gambling of both sports argue that it brings about economic benefits such as enabling those who bet to earn extra money, which aids them in their daily lives. It creates employment as more people would be required to work in the gambling industry to meet the needs of all the customers. It increases enjoyment of the game as people are looking forward to more than their teams winning but also their winning (Champion et al., slides 16 &8). In contrast, opponents of legalization argue that it would destroy the integrity of sports, as money would become a great motivator for players to shave points in favor of who offers the most money. It would destroy the quality of the games, as some teams would qualify and others fail to get a chance simply because money exchanged hands to help a team gain an unfair advantage or the other to lose, leading to uneven matching skills. Also, it would lead to increased addiction, which would destroy lives, families, and society (Champion et al., slides 16 &8). Do you agree that sports gambling provide an “economic benefit” to certain parties? Yes, sports gambling do provide economic benefits to some communities. According to Glynn, Walker, Nower, & Choi (2015),...
