- Share your ‘home run book’ think about how this text can be used to introduce topics around diversity, (anti) racism, and social (in)justice.
- How can you use this read aloud to help students heal from internalized oppression and damaging images about their “group”?
- How can you help students emerge stronger, rather than weaker from discussion around such incidents?” (Valenzuela, p. 55).

Personal Injustice Reflection
As a student, I have been unjustly treated in the past within the school environment due to my yellow color and social status. I believe all students should be treated equally despite their color or religion, but that was not the case this particular time. I did not receive other wealthy students' treatment as a middle-class student. In most cases, I would be served last due to my social status and color, which lowered my self-esteem. The experience has traumatized me to date and ensured people are treated in a better way whenever I am in charge of events.
The unjust treatment due to my social status and color made me feel unworthy and lowered my self-esteem. As s student, there was nothing much I could do about my social status since I depended on my family. The low self-esteem affected my education until I shared it with my parents. It was a traumatizing experience, and it should be repeated to other students within any learning institution. Learning institutions treat students equally regardless of their social status, religion, or color. It will ensure students are better and more effective in their learning.
From the incident, I think learning institutions need to have measures for equal treatment for their students. It will ensure students are well treated and managed to avoid cases of injustice.
