Creating a Classroom Management Plan
Classroom management plans are created by teachers to assist in the planning and implementation of a positive classroom environment that is efficient, proactively addresses issues that may arise, and provides systematic support for the teacher and students to remain engaged, on task, and productive. Consideration of the unique needs of students should guide the development of a classroom management plan. By understanding student needs, the teacher is better able to identify the types of accommodations and modifications to routinely include in the plan.
Use the “Creating a Classroom Management Plan” template to complete this assignment.
Using the grade level for which you would like to teach, create a 750-1,000 word classroom management plan for students in your special education resource classroom described in the “Class Profile.”
Include the following in your classroom management plan:
Classroom Management Plan Statement of Purpose.
Rules: Description of 3-5 rules, positive reinforcements aligned to each rule, and consequences for not following each rule.
Procedures/Routines: Provide 3-5 classroom procedures and routines.
Classroom environmental considerations.
Implementation Plan: Include information about how you plan to introduce your plan and teach students and paraeducators the rules and procedures.
Documentation Plan: Include information about how you will document student behavior and the effectiveness of the classroom management plan.
Confidentiality and Ethical/Legal Considerations Plan: Describe your plan to handle confidential documents, protect student rights, and protect the confidential information of individuals with disabilities in your classroom.
Crisis Management Plan: Describe steps to de-escalate behavior and how you will handle the safety of students and staff.
Substitute Teacher Plans: Describe information you would leave for a substitute teacher coming into your classroom.
In addition, rationalize your classroom management plan decisions in 250-500 words, explaining how the plan will meet the needs of the students identified in the “Class Profile.” Support your choices with references to the “Special Education Professional Ethical Principles.”
Support your findings with a minimum of two scholarly resources.
APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Loss of privilege, such as limited access to preferred activities or items, if a student consistently invades others' personal space or belongings.
Use kind and respectful language towards peers and staff.
Praise and acknowledgment for students who use kind and respectful language towards peers and staff, such as verbal praise, a reward system, or require the rest of the class to praise the student for their exemplary behavior.
Verbal reminder or redirection for students who use inappropriate language, and loss of privilege(s) if the behavior continues.
Classroom Procedures and Routines:
Classwork Procedures
- All students should have arrived on time and be seated before the teacher enters. Any late student will be required to explain his/her lateness.
- All students must put away their backpacks and hang their coats before seating quietly to wait for the teacher.
- All students are required to seek permission from the teacher before leaving during class time.
- All students are required to raise their hand and ask for permission to use the restroom. When granted the permission, they should walk quietly.
- Students are expected to safely keep their property. They should also return them to their designated location after use. Any materials supplied by the teacher should be handed back before leaving the class.
- Students who have assistive technology or assigned devices are responsible for their care. they should handle them with care, charge them appropriately and report any issues or damages to the teacher.
Routines
- Homework Routine: All homework should be put in the designated tray/folder before the start of each class.
- Group Work Routine: Students follow established procedures for engaging in group work, such as taking turns, listening to each other's ideas, and resolving conflicts respectfully.
- Transition Routine: Students follow a routine for transitioning between activities or classes, such as packing up their belongings, lining up, and waiting for instructions.
Classroom Environmental Considerations:
Physical Layout: All furniture should be arranged to create safe and accessible environment for all students. All students should be able to walk around comfortably. The furniture should also be arranged in a way to facilitate student engagement, interaction and cooperation when sharing resources or doing groupwork. The classroom should also allow for flexible seating options to cater for the needs of student to facilitate their involvement and learning CITATION How18 \l 1033 (Howe, Boelé, & Miramontes, 2018). There should be quiet spaces for students where they can do calm-down activities or sensory break.
Classroom Supports & Aids: There should be provision for staff, other teachers, aides and paraprofessionals who provide support for the needy students. The classroom physical layout should cater for their attendance in class and provisions made for materials needed for their work.
Because of the intellectual abilities of each student coupled with their different learning levels, the class should be equipped with visual cues and labels. They can include pictures, symbols etc. to aid special needs students to easily understand daily schedule i.e. queuing, quiet place, help students to remember class rules, direct them to different areas i.e. bookshelf, bins. Etc.
