American History Standards Lesson Outline
Every day, teachers are challenged to engage their students in meaningful conversations that prompt critical thinking. The purpose of this assignment is to address the varying levels of knowledge and skill building that occur during these vital conversations.
Part 1: Standards-Based Questions
Select one K-8 grade level and identify two American history standards for your state. Complete the “American History Questions Chart” by developing a lesson outline that includes standards-based questions that promote active engagement, positive social interaction, and critical thinking.
Part 2: Rationale
Write a 250-500 word rationale explaining how the questions you have developed model and teach respectful communication skills within standards-based social studies instruction. How do the questions increase students’ critical thinking and depth of knowledge? Why it is important to pre-plan critical thinking questions?
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

The student should be able to restate the story according to what happened, the characters, and their location.
Summary of Learning Activities
The teacher is supposed to read a story of “The three little pigs” to the students.
The teacher should then give these scholars illustrations of this book.
The teacher will then ask open-ended questions to help understand their prior acquaintance.
The students will employ visual tools such as illustrations and videos about what they have learned and recreate a new story by employing a short play.
Questions that Promote Active Engagement
One of the questions that promote active engagement is asking the scholars how they feel after reading the text.
The next question is asking them if they feel it is important.
The last question is asking them whether they feel interested in rereading it.
Questions that Promote Positive Social Interaction
One of the questions is which special memories have the story triggered.
The next question is, has the scholar been in a similar position?
The next question is whether the story relates to how they relate with the people in the society.
Questions that Promote Critical Thinking
The following are the questions that promote critical thinking;
What are the characters within the story?
What are the different settings in the story?
What are the different events in the story?
Which is the main event in the story?

The student should also have the ability to apply the ending punctuation correctly.
Summary of Learning Activities
The teacher should read the “Henry and Mudge” journal prompt with the students.
After reading, the teacher should show them how to use punctuation at the end of the sentence while applying capital letters at the start of every sentence.
