Social media is a contemporary phenomenon and movement. It has permeated almost all aspects of humanity, following increased market penetration of smartphone ownership, increased internet coverage, and the emergence of more efficient technologies worldwide. Many social media platforms exist, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, among many others, host millions of users. The challenges create seamless and instant opportunities to commute and interact with millions of users online. Many business organizations are leveraging social media to drive sales and woo customers by establishing a link with potential consumers across various chillness and regions, with minimal physical barriers. Social Media presents advertisers with new and interactive approaches to connecting with customers. Social networking sites, blogs, games, and end-users can create content tailored for a commercial and educational context (Hettche, & Clayton, 2012). With more capabilities and advancements being added to various social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, social media is likely to grow. Thus, businesses must take opportunities to tap opportunities presented by these platforms because its popularity is unlikely to wane as more people are getting techno-savvy.
Misuse of Social Media Platforms
In the movie The Cycle, Mae Holland or Emma Watson grabs the opportunity when she gets a job with a social media company. Due to aspirations from Tom Hanks, the company's founder, she joined an experiment that pushes the limits regarding privacy, ethics, and personal freedom. The deeper she gets into it, the more it becomes clear how her choices limit privacy and personal space for humanity. Her engagement with the experiment and every decision she made had a profound impact on the lives and futures of her friends, family, and that humanity. This film unravels the challenges of emerging social media platforms.
