Learning of the things that lead people to become homeless (economic instability, lack of affordable housing, etc.) was both heartbreaking and eye-opening. According to Rafla-Yuan et al. (2024), homelessness usually results from financial difficulties and systemic discrepancies, not the failure of individuals. It was a realization that further pressed the need for more radical-seeming, comprehensive, and compassionate social programs that tackled the underlying causes instead of treating symptoms.
