Lesson 4 Reflection Author’s Name Institutional Affiliation Course Code and Name Professor’s Name Date Lesson 4 Reflection “Human Services and Ethical Practice” focuses on various primary things that significantly influence the human service profession. They include ethical practice, code of ethics, decision-making skills, human service professional ethical standards, effective communication skills, and client rights description among others. Human service professionals are bound by ethical principles to ensure that they provide quality healthcare services to their clients. However, they sometimes encounter ethical challenges and limited accessibility to resources, requiring advocacy and partnerships. The most difficult scenario to deal with would be respecting client autonomy in moments when they refuse services or care. Autonomy gives the client the right to make decisions regarding the healthcare services they want. In some scenarios, clients might be reluctant to receive much-needed medical services, leading to continued suffering (Woodside & McClam, 2018). Clients may refuse the available intervention due to shame, guilt, and other factors affecting their decision-making. If I face such a situation, I would strive to help my clients realize the best treatment or intervention without forcing them. That way, I would adhere to autonomy. However, supporting clients’ independence can be challenging when their decisions might lead to self-harm and destruction. Access to services is always a problematic aspect among marginalized communities. Many people need human services, but the resources remain insufficient for a large part of the population that requires them.
