Kitchen Layout Project
Learning Objective: Design a warehouse operation layout considering safety, material handling, automation, information systems, and lean manufacturing concepts.
For this posting, you will complete the following:
1. Sketch out the current layout of your kitchen, as viewing it from above (like blueprints).
2. If you were baking a cake using any recipe, map out the movements you would need to take to get from start to finish (gathering ingredients and utensils, mixing, baking, storing, frosting, etc.). This is called a spaghetti diagram and an explanation can be found here: https://www(dot)whatissixsigma(dot)net/spaghetti-diagram/ (Links to an external site.) and https://www(dot)brighthubpm(dot)com/six-sigma/112475-example-of-a-spaghetti-chart/ (Links to an external site.)
3. Sketch out a new layout of your kitchen to create a more efficient flow when baking a cake (make the unlikely assumption that you are only going to use the kitchen to bake cakes).
4. Diagram the new flow of baking a cake from start to finish.
5. Reflect on this exercise and how it could apply in supply chain logistics.
I will need the drawings as well. It will be 2 different layout drawings of a kitchen with the flow map showing how you would move to bake a cake with each drawing/spaghetti map. Then answer number 5 with at least 300 words.
