As defined by the Frankfurt School’s critical theory, the culture industry is based mainly based on the ideology that supports the prevailing power structure, which includes consumerism and capitalism. The culture industry is responsible for modeling cultural consumers who would consume its products and conform to the dictates and the behaviors of the existing society. The cultural sector also produces rational and critical consumers who separate and discriminate among cultural texts and performance (Coradentti, 2013). The culture industry controls the mass production of the products as well as oppressing the masses. The cultural sector limits discourse because it favors and ensures the well-being of the capitalists in society.
