He better understands the obligations of a leader in terms of himself, his followers, and organization. For example, Joey knows that he should motivate his team members, collaborate with them, and focus on achieving the set goals and objectives (Mears, 2019). Whenever things fail, Joey is ready to own the failures affecting his team and allow members to participate in addressing such problems. Additionally, Joey values his followers and organization, which is why he is accountable, transparent, and open when it comes to solving failures and creating room for growth. Overall, he understands the significance of motivation, discipline, failure, and ownership in leadership without forgetting how to communicate with his followers effectively to combat issues that might hinder success. Jim Valvano depicts that his personal philosophy is “You + Motivation = Success.” After watching his video, Valvano means that when ordinary individuals are motivated they achieve extraordinary things.
