Introduction
Organizations evolve with the changes in business dynamics, competition, technological advancements, and varying needs of the stakeholders. Businesses are constantly required to update their corporate processes and adapt to changes in the business context to stay ahead of their competitors or survive in the global competitive environment. The successful change process is driven by organizations with a strategic approach, effective change plans, strong leadership, and sustainable corporate change practices (Adam, 2022). The subsequent paper offers a comprehensive analysis of the change process within Sigma Tech Solution and discusses the different aspects of organizational change within this mid-size technology company. Sigma Tech has decided to transition from a traditional workplace setting to a hybrid work model to effectively use its resources and opportunities while meeting the workplace challenges all its stakeholders face. The paper focuses on the significance of sustainable change within modern organizations guided by effective leadership, ethical thinking, and commitment to continuous improvement, leading to a successful change initiative.
Professional Change Initiative
Identifying a professional change initiative personally researched is a transition from the in-office work model to a hybrid work model within a mid-size technology, Sigma Tech Solutions. The technology company recognized the need for the change initiative after the pandemic to shift towards a remote working model that can ensure the continuity of business operations and the safety of its employees while offering flexibility in work processes. The organization realized the significance of maintaining operational efficiency and initiated a change to offer a hybrid work model for its employees.
The hybrid work model is the flexible work approach that allows business personnel to accomplish corporate tasks and fulfill their roles based on personal preferences. The hybrid approach offers privileges such as accessibility to on-site resources, a flexible work approach, time effectiveness, and work-life balance (Krajčík et al., 2023). This model requires reconfiguring the office space with a few on-site employees and collaborating between employees and teams to connect remotely. The change initiative requires communication tools, an update of software and hardware systems, an integrated system, and essential resources to help the employees work at their convenience. Organizations need to redefine their corporate policy as a part of a change initiative that includes strategies and work guidelines related to remote work and addresses issues related to the new work plan.
Change Initiative in the Context of Leader and the Follower
All stakeholders perceive the change initiative differently. Every individual has their viewpoint regarding the change being initiated within the organization. While discussing it from the leader’s perspective, the change initiative to move towards a hybrid work model is viewed as a strategic shift to ensure the organisation's long-term success. Moreover, the change initiative, as seen through the eyes of the leader, is an opportunity to increase employee productivity, reduce overhead costs, avoid work disruptions, meet global challenges, fulfill stakeholder needs, and stay competitive in the market. Leaders are most likely to anticipate resistance during the change process, which will lead to the formulation of effective communication strategies and transparent work processes. Ethical leaders nurture an open culture that thrives on trust and a continuous open communication (Terzieva, 2024). Furthermore, the leader views it as essential to preserve the corporate culture and maintain employee collaboration as part of the change initiative.
The change initiative, as seen through the eyes of the follower, comes across a range of varied reactions. Most people in modern business dynamics welcome this change and appreciate the flexible work environment offered by the company. It allows followers to access company resources while working from their homes or any place convenient, resulting in greater productivity and high job satisfaction. However, some employees may perceive this change as a threat to their jobs, restricting them from exhibiting their skills and abilities through online platforms or causing them to fail to cope with the technological challenges during remote work. Their apprehensions and fears can be reduced and averted through clear communication, leadership support, implementation of fair practices, and provision of required resources.
Successes and Failures During the Change Event
Organizational change is a continuous process that should be a part of organizational culture. However, corporations often make mistakes in planning and implementing change as a single event without considering maintaining the change. As discussed below, the change initiative experienced various successes and a few failures during the change event.
The hybrid model successfully saved Sigma Tech Solutions money by reducing the overhead costs incurred due to the in-house work setting. The office resources used by the employees were reduced, which also decreased the use of utilities and bills. The financial and physical resources were used to invest in the new technology and hybrid model to support the remote working procedure for employees.
Further, the business improved productivity and efficiency due to advanced technology, flexible working hours, and location. It helps them save time. The digital tools allowed greater accessibility to data resources and ease of working. Employees were more satisfied with high morale and determination due to the flexible working environment and reduced stress and pressure caused in a workplace setting.
Organizations undergo several failures and limitations during a change event. The major challenge was using technolo...
