SUBJECT: Evaluation of the Staff Benefit Program at Mayo Memorial Hospital
Here is the report evaluating our staff benefit program that you requested on October 15.
The report shows that overall the staff is familiar with and values most of the benefits we offer. At the end of the report, I’ve made several recommendations regarding the possibility of issuing individualized benefit statements annually and determining the usefulness of the automobile insurance benefit, the feasibility of offering compensation for unused sick leave, and the competitiveness of our retirement program.
I enjoyed working on this assignment, Dave, and learned quite a bit from my analysis of the situation that will help me during the upcoming labor negotiations. Please let me know if I can provide further information.

Introduction
Human resource management is essential in every organization and it mainly focuses on managing employees and other resources in an organization with the goal of helping the company to gain a competitive advantage. Ordinarily, the activities of the human resource departments are managed and controlled by the human resource manager (HRM). The main functions of the human resource manager are to oversee all the functions of the departments as well as managing the employees. For this reason, the managers are required to get each of the human resources disciplines which include recruitment and selection, compensations and benefits, employees training and development and employees relations. It is also important to note that the functions of the human resource manager may change depending on the overall needs of his or her company. The manager’s duties and responsibilities are determined by the objectives developed by the senior management team. This paper will critically examine the goals of human resource managers, their typical duties, the working conditions, education and experience requirements, and their salaries.
I am interested in becoming a human resource manager because the human resource department is critical in examining and maximizing the contributions of all employees at different levels of the organization which is key in achieving the objectives and goals set by the senior managers. Most importantly, the human resource manager is also often involved with consultations with the top management on several issues such as the company’s direction, strategic planning, and employee development. This is important for me as I would like to work in a position where I can freely interact with all workers in the organization, both junior and senior employees. Further, as a human resource manager, I will be able to work with different types of professionals and I will also have a challenge of managing and working on a variety of tasks every day.
Additionally, being in charge of the human resource department, I will be in a position of influencing the future of the company based on the recruitment decisions I make, this is particularly true because the human resource managers have a strong understanding of the organization’s priorities and challenges. I will also be in a position to impact and change other peoples’ lives. This is because my daily responsibilities will be mainly focused on other employees’ welfare and happiness (Sabell, 2015). Also providing employment to individuals who are desperately looking for a job, offering employees with suitable health insurances covers and providing the workers with reliable skills will help in making the employees better and comfortable in the company.
Human resource is also a unique career because one is able to work in a variety of organizations and it also provides one with a chance of traveling to different parts of the world where the manager is in position to face new challenges and learn from them. Human resource also provides the opportunity of advancing within the company and get opportunities to work in the upper management positions. The monetary gain is also attractive since human resource professionals are compensated appropriately earning over $59,180 in a year. With the advancement in terms of the level of education and experience specialists in a human resource are in a position to earn more than that.
Purpose of the study
It is important that all organizations should establish and strengthen their human resource department. This way the organization may benefit in myriad areas such as strategic management where the human resource helps in improving the firm’s bottom line because of his or her extensive knowledge on how human capital affects the organizational success. The human resource department also plays a crucial role in corporate decision-making which focuses on the current staffing assessments and projections for future workforce needs to be based on business demand. This report will provide essential information outlining what is required to make effective human resource managers, the insights provided here will help individuals aspiring to undertake careers in the field to understand the level of education and experience required. Organizations may also use this information to appreciate the need for the human resource in their organization and also further the training of their human resource personnel to attain high-level standards.
Today, employees benefits are increasingly growing, and these benefits form an essential part of the employees total compensation package for his or her services. The employee’s benefits are an important part of their package since it constitutes the major part of their income. However, most of the organizations do not offer attractive benefits to their employees (Sikora & Ferris, 2014). Employees also do not claim these benefits because they lack knowledge about the benefits that they are supposed to receive from their workplaces. Therefore, I aspire to be a human resource manager so that I can help to ensure that the employee benefits are adequately paid.
As a manager in charge of the human resource department, I will institute policies that aim at educating the employees about their employment benefits so that they can claim their deserved benefit packages. The education administered will help the employees understand and have knowledge about when and when not to receive extra employment benefits. This information is particularly crucial to the employees because it helps them gain a high level of job satisfaction. In many cases, job satisfaction helps to improve the productivity of the employees, and therefore they will also help the organizations to be more profitable.
To gain reliable and trustworthy information, an experienced human resource manager was interviewed to provide information related to education and experience requirements of a human resource manager, duties and responsibility, Skills, working conditions, salary, and wages.
Findings
Education and Experience
Human resource managers perform a wide range of activities in an organization related to the welfare of the employees as well as current and future position of the company. For these reasons, it is essential for professionals in these positions to obtain the required education and also other relevant training so that they may obtain the needed qualifications. The interviewee suggested that individuals aspiring to become specialists in this area should pursue an undergraduate degree in business with a specialization in human resource management (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019). He further added that a college degree offers individuals with core competencies in different areas such as management practices, business law, leadership, ethics, communication, and data analysis among other areas. He, however, emphasized that a master’s degree in human resource management is an added advantage because it provided in-depth knowledge of organizational assessment, executive communication, practices to promote diversity and inclusion and employment law.
He also stressed that individuals should assess their qualifications and examine the requirements that employers are looking for. Ordinarily, organizations will consider an individual’s experience when hiring and it is therefore recommended that people should obtain internships in human resource departments where they gain field experience by they apply the theories they learn in class. Besides, volunteering in community development projects can help individuals to acquire organizational skills. The interviewee also suggested that joining and interacting with other human resource professionals may help in one in getting entry-level opportunities as well as other trends in the human resource field.
The interviewee also stipulates that individuals should also pursue professional human resource certifications because they offer different widely recognized means of demonstrating human resource knowledge and training. There are different colleges that provide these courses but it is recommended to attend recognized institutions such as the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). The certifications may include Professional in Human Resource (PHR) where people are examined in different areas which include workforce planning, human resource development, and labor relations among others. Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) offers knowledge on strategic development, risk management, and total rewards while Global Professional in Human Resource (GPHR) focus on international management assignment management, employee relations and regulations, and strategic human resource management.
Hierarchy of Human Resource Management
The interviewee also stated that the human resource career has different ranks through which a determined candidate can escalate.
