The issue of drug testing at the workplace raises a lot of controversy with some citing privacy issues and others in support of it because of safety and improved job performance. There are things that organizations can implement to avoid issues related with drug testing. First, the organization needs to have a testing policy that is clear to all its employees. Testing needs to be job specific in that it should only be applied when impairment is seen to be directly connected to employee’s performance. When tests are carried out, random selection need to be done to ensure that employees do not feel discriminated. Finally, monitoring programs that ensure employees can get rehabilitation and support during recovery (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2011).
The traditional interview process faces pitfalls of low validity and reliability. To enhance reliability, consistency in the information provided to the candidates and consistent patterns in how interviewers rate candidates is necessary.
