High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is "good" cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is "bad cholesterol." HDL is necessary to collect cholesterol from tissues and transporting it to the liver for elimination through the bile. A low level of HDL cholesterol increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) are the bad cholesterol that increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
