Music Performance Reflection

the class will hear a live performance of the music of Kurt Weill (1900–1950), a composer who fled Nazi Germany in 1933 and then continued his distinguished career in the United States. This live performance opens a day-long symposium entitled Sounds: Avant-Garde, Modernism and Fascism sponsored by the UB Humanities Institute. The symposium, in turn, is just one event in the year-long Kurt Weill Festival co-sponsored by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the University at Buffalo.

Write a response in which you reflect on the performance. How would you characterize the style of the music? Do you have questions or insights about the purpose(s) for which Weill composed it? As a listener, what did you most like or dislike about the performance?
