Brief overview of the company
ABC Company manufactures widgets and has been operational in the past 10 years and has 50 employees. The company has been stagnant and wants to expand as there are opportunities in the emerging markets. However, there are problems as the president works from home and rarely communicates with other managers. The mid-level managers have little contact with their fellow managers, while the employees distrust the managers. There is lack of open communication in the company and need to embrace change to improve performance.
Problems/challenges for ABC Company in the expansion
* ABC lacks an effective leadership and management as the company’s president is not actively involved in the management and makes decisions without involving the managers and he is rarely in the company.
* There is lack of proper communication as the managers mostly talks on the phone and in rare occasions, while the mid managers do not have much contact with each other.
* The other staff members distrust the management.
* Finding the right people to work with, including partners and teams.
Key people in making decisions and their roles
* President-The president approves changes and facilitates expansion.
* Sales and marketing head-They sales and marketing departments is important to promote and integrate effective marketing strategies in diverse markets. They also liaise with other people on promotion, marketing and effective communication. They also diversify the market presence with focus on the new target market as a way to extend the lifecycle of the widgets.
* HR manager- The HR is important to find new talent and fill gaps where local talent are essential to the company’s growth and understand the local business practices.
* Heads of other departments- There is a need for collaboration and working together
Teams/staff involved in the day to day work of this initiative

* Sales and marketing team- Entering a new market often requires adapting and meeting the needs and expectations of the target market.
* HR team- There is recruitment of the best fit individuals who will help achieve the organization’s objectives and improve the product visibility.
Team collaboration communication plan
Communication is the basis of a good working relationship with the team members, and having an open environment and having well-established protocols is helpful. The members feel more integrated and there is feedback. Open communication makes it easier to understand how norms, practices and culture influence interaction (Cawsey, Deszca, & Ingols, 2016). Another thing is task management where there is clarity on what to expect and task management tools help to improve and optimize the work.Timeline leading up to global expansion
The timeline required to expand is 6 months to a year, which begins with conducting market analysis for widget in 1 month, this is followed by segmenting the market and assessing the competition. Then there is determination of the regulatory requirements, labeling and other details. The product is tested before marketing, sales and distribution.
Solutions that ABC Company will need to successfully to expand globally
Establishing a team of experienced managers and staff is necessary to be competitive in the international market. Merely taking senior managers from ABC to new markets and starting a local team are risky and time-consuming. Another important solution for ABC is focusing on product readiness where there is marketing of the product and differentiation to make customer needs. Localization of the product and market gap analysis helps in improving product readiness. Another solution when expanding is focusing on organizational readiness since there are differences in business practices, culture, customs and regulations. The company needs to adapt to the local conditions where the employees are engaged in executing plans, and this may require tweaking the organizational structure. Assumptions did you use in providing for the solution(s) to expanding globally?
The assumptions made are that the company will operate in an environment that is different from the home market and only some of the current managers and employees know the business practices, and policies in the international markets. As such, localization and adapting to the local conditions can make a big difference in the company’s growth potential. Organization Capacity for Change (OCC)
