Question No. 1: What was the case about?
The article tells the story of Simone, a client, and her therapist, Safran. The client and therapist entered into a joint venture to address transference and countertransference issues. Transference occurs when a person subliminally links another person in the current time with a past relationship; conversely, countertransference occurs when a person reacts to the ideas and emotions associated with previous connections (Mann, 2021). The therapist has also helped his patient understand that her bulimia may be the source of her feeling incomplete. Bulimia is a disorder in which binge eating and purging occur. Binge eating occurs when a person consumes massive quantities of food regularly with an accompanying lack of self-control.
In contrast, purging occurs when a person engages in actions such as taking laxatives or diuretics, throwing up, skipping meals, or exercising excessively (Hail & Le Grange, 2018). The article also discusses how the therapist used the patient’s dream to help with therapy sessions. The article also demonstrates how the therapist and patient dealt with dismissal concerns. Both the therapist and the patient agreed that it had been beneficial to the patient at the end of the treatment. In all, Simone’s case is complex in many aspects.
Question No. 2: Who did it involve?
Simone, Doctor Safran, Simone's family, and Simone's previous lovers are all mentioned in the article. Some have had a positive impact on Simone, while others have had a negative impact on her. Nonetheless, all of these people are important and have influenced Simone's emotions and behavior. All of them have an impact on Simone's development and apprehensions.
Question No. 3: What happened in the case?
Simone, an African American woman, is 26 years old. Simone is alluring, intelligent, jovial, eloquent, and well-dressed, but she denies self-doubt and fragility. Simone has bulimia, so she seeks help and treatment from the therapist, Doctor Safran. Throughout their therapy sessions, Doctor Safran tries to elicit Simone’s emotions, fears, and goals. Simone’s situation appears to be complicated. Simone is in denial about her fears and vulnerabilities, which prevents her from discovering her genuine emotions and thoughts. As a result, she refuses to engage in an in-depth conversation that will help the therapist address the issues. Simone’s situation is further complicated by her passion and commitment to the treatment and attending therapy sessions. There are times when Simone makes it difficult for the therapist to delve deeper and learn more about her. She will also occasionally be late for therapy sessions or will not attend at all. Worse, she frequently mentions the end of the therapy. Simone’s obstacles and issues further complicate her situation. Her issues include a sense of emptiness, binge eating disorder or bulimia, a failure to sustain relations with men or women, a complex and challenging family situation, a detached and uncomfortable relationship with his father, and despair of becoming utterly reliant on others. As a result, these issues influenced how she engages and create relationships. According to Hail and Le Grange (2018), cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychopharmacological treatment may help people w...
