Case Study Instructions:

Sally is a 41-year-old female with a history of unsuccessful weight loss attempts. In the past, Sally has tried “almost every diet known to man” and now wants to lose “at least fifty pounds” and “stop fighting with myself”. Sally lives alone and works as an accountant. Her hobbies include reading, spending time with her cat, and shopping. She describes her life as “pretty isolated” and rates her happiness at a 4 out of 10. She explains that when trying to change her behaviour, she usually “falls off the bandwagon after a few days”, and describes herself as “stuck”. She has no history of injuries or preclusions to exercise and has recently had a clean physical exam, with the exception of needing to lose weight. Describe what approach you would take with Sally to help her change her behaviour. Please include your rationale for your approach along with the measurement protocol you would use and the outcomes you would hope to achieve.

Behavior Change
History shows that Sally has made efforts to such as trying different diets. These moves and experiences show her dedication and determination to attain the change she needs. Unfortunately, there is a kind of behavior in her that she fights and needs to avoid to achieve her body objectives. Sally has some emotional blockage and a poor sense of self-esteem. Typically, the body, the mind, and the emotions need to be aligned for long-term success. As a result, it would be important to address the root cause of the weight gain. Sally mentions that she lives an isolated life and has chosen a profession that does not necessitate physical interaction. The aspect can also turn to be a negative self-belief. As an accountant, she has to do a lot of auditing, and it is a highly stressed job. The occupation is coupled with strict deadlines and conflicts between a client and what is permitted by tax laws. Therefore, Sally is likely to suffer chronic stress.
The scenario makes it important to question her stress levels and determine whether she feels safe in the world generally. Such questions should be complemented by motivational interviewing techniques to help define the emotional blockages to change. It can as well help them perceive herself compassionately. It is also recommended to explain that the stress has some significant impacts on the weight gain and prevents her from attaining her weight loss goals. She needs to know that stress stimulates the production of cortisol. The process should solicit self-compassion from the knowledge that the subconscious level that governs her mind and body cooperate to keep her safe by creating a physical barrier between her and the world. She can then appreciate the fat is the way the body insulates people from the outside world. It is also helpful to know that it is true for mammals that when perceived as famine, the metabolism slows down, and fat increases. As a result, every time she puts herself on a duet, she may be cognitively self-inducing fat storage following her perception that lack is tied to dieting.
Following these findings, the best appropriate strategy is to start substituting the food choices for better choices. Typically, Sally was used to adopting a calorie-restricted diet which might be the problem. It would be appropriate to recommend consuming high fiber, low GL with regular inclusion of vegetables and fruits (Melby, Paris, Bell & Hill, 2019). She should adopt the perception that eating a healthy meal first still allows her to choose if she feels like it. This will eliminate the sense of lack that may be as well the cause of stress. After adjusting and testing, Sally is likely to avoid unhealthy foods and start transitioning to healthy habits. Therefore, the forbidden apple syndrome will be eliminated, and she becomes conformable with her new food types.
After the emotional issues surrounding eating and dieting are resolved, it would be time to move freely without her own worst enemy. She should take it to herself to define her goals directed in ways of becoming SMART goals. The goal may start with an initial target, say, attaining a 10% weight loss. This should come even when the amount has been proven to attract massive health and wellbeing advantages. It is critical to establish realistic expectations from the start. Sally should be advised that the entire series is a process, and with unrealistic goals, failure to achieve them is a failure to meet the program's objectives. Sally lives alone, which offers her a motive to be encouraged to prepare meals, precook healthy meals in bulk and freeze them in the appropriate sizes and portions. These foods should be stored in zip-lock bags, and the entire process might help her make sure her die...
