CASE STUDY
Introduction
According to the records at the pediatric orthopedic clinic which is part of a health science center located at the city of London, Canada Ontario and CWHO this acted as the regional health center where children were given special treatment. The number of people in this area which has ten counties is about 1.4 million which is an inclusion of the children who are about 400000. The services also attracts patients from outside this region in the neighboring counties, one of the other major role of this pediatric orthopedic clinic is that a child faced with a complex bone trauma is usually referred here for any further examination and treatments. This clinic operates for three and a half day sessions every week this is from Monday to Wednesday starting from 8.30 am all through to 1.00 pm. The rest of the days of the week when the clinic is not operating the facilities are put to use by other subspecialties more so of surgery. The clinic has a staff consisting of a surgeon, three clerks, two senior students residing in the area, and about four registered nurses (Leitch, 2009).

YesNo
The patient flow at the clinic is recorded at the front desk where registration and verification is done, in the registration desk it`s the first point for customers to make contact with the hospital staffs. The first appointments are usually about 8.30 but despite this arrangement the patients rarely get appointments until as late as 11.30a.m. According to the records at the registration desk the last patient went for frequent examination which was performed by the surgeon or the senior student at around 12.45 p.m. the patient flow in the clinic follows a criterion where once the patient arrives at the front desk the clerk notes the patients arrival on the master schedule, he goes ahead to check the patients insurance health card and also takes a look and accepts any other document of referral that the patient might have. The process after the clerk accepts the patients papers are for the patient to return to the waiting area as nurse checks at their medical status file.
After the nurses checks the patient`s medical status they are sent to the radiology nearby which is about 25 meters from the clinic in this part the patients gets an x-ray of the part that is undergoing treatment. The flow that follows after the patient arrives at the radiology department the patient hands in the referral form at the department`s front desk. As the form had been indicated on by the nurse on the area that an x-ray is to be performed, the patient then waits at the front desk for the next available x-ray machine. When time comes for the patient to be attended their name is called and there is a technician who escorts them into one of the imaging rooms, there are six of them. The x-ray requires parental acceptance and so the technician is tasked with explaining the procedure to both the parent and the child and depending on the x-ray image to be taken the machine is adjusted to meet the requirements. There are usually two types of x-rays that are performed this is the upper and the lower extremity. The upper extremity includes the shoulders to the finger (lower arm, hand and finger, elbow, upper arm) while the lower extremity includes the knee to the toe (lower leg, ankle, toes, foot, upper leg).
The process of adjusting the x-ray machine takes several minutes to move it from one extremity to the other but in case th...
