Client Profile – Chris Double
Your Name
Subject and Section
Professor’s Name
September 1, 2019
Client Profile: Chris is a high school student and is eager to gain some muscle mass. He eats a diet that consists primarily of processed food (fast foods, cafeteria, etc.). Chris is anxious to get stronger so that he can go out for the wrestling team.
_________________________
While Chris’ eagerness and determination could be very helpful for the attainment of his goals, both his physical and social circumstances must be taken into consideration. Accordingly, these circumstances include his time, vital statistics, and the purpose for this training. All in all, these should be able to provide the client with the best kind of training program that would also be timely and efficient considering that he is looking forward to joining the university’s wrestling team.
The first thing that must be done before planning a fitness program for our client is to determine his vital statistics and other traits that would be essential to monitor improvement. Taking these measures during the initial interview phase is of prime importance since it would provide a baseline measure where the succeeding calculations could be done. Some of the most important things that must be taken includes his height, weight, age, and heart rate, all of which are provided in the table below (Table 1).
Trait
Quantity
Height
5’10” or 1.778m
Weight
120lbs
Age
14
Heart Rate (resting)
206
From this table, the other required measurements could be derived such as the Chris’ Body Mass Index, Basal Metabolic Rate, Maximum Heart Rate, etc. These derived traits could then help in creating a training program that specifically targets his weaknesses and improve on his strengths.
Similarly, the computations for these are provided below:
BMI = [703 x lbs] x / in2
= [703 x 120 lbs]/ [70in]2
17.21 lbs/in2
BMR (Men) =
= 66.47 + (6.24 * weight [lbs]) + (12.7 * size [in]) − (6.8 * age [years])
= 66.47 + (6.24 X 120 lbs) + (12.7 x 70in)- (6.8 x 14)
= 66.47 + 748.8 lbs + 889 in - 95.2
1609.07
Upon examination, the client’s BMI and BMR are 17.21 lbs/in2 and 1609.07, respectively.
Accordingly, Chris is underweight relative to his height. The normal BMI for an American adult 18.5 to 24.9 lbs/in2. However, Chris is only 17.21 lbs/in2, which is below the threshold for a normal BMI. In contrast to this, Chris’ BMR is also under the normal levels for an American male. It could be seen that his BMR is 1609, whereas the normal levels should be about 1,800 instead. Accordingly, while normal levels of BMI and BMR are not directly related to strength, both of these are needed to increase his endurance which is also indispensable for the game of wrestling.
Another thing that must be taken into consideration is the target heart rate (at 60% and 80%) for Chris. In order to do this, we must first derive the maximum heart rate using the formula below.
Maximum HR= 220 – age in years
=220 -14 y/o
= 206
60% Heart Rate
Target HR= 70bpm + (0.6 [ 206-70bpm]
Target HR (60%) = 151.6 or 152bpm
80% Heart Rate
Target HR= 70bpm + (0.8 [ 206-70bpm]
Target HR (80%) = 178.8 or 179 bpm
The results for the maximum heart rate (206) is important to derive the client’s target heart rates at different percentages (60% and 80%) using the Karvanoven formula. The computations are also as follows:
It must be noted that finding the heart rates for the different percentages would be necessary for the succeeding trainings, in order to determine Chris’ fitness levels.
Fitness Tests and Methods of Evaluation
Based from the measures above, the different tests and methods of evaluation for Chris includes (1) sit and reach test, (2) 1 RM deadlift, 1 RM leg press, 1 RM bench press for muscle strength, (3) 6-minute walk test, and (4) 1-minute sit-up, push up, and planking for muscle endurance.
Sit and Reach Test
The first test would be sit and reach test. This is used to test for flexibility and it primarily tests the flexibility of the muscles of the back and the hamstrings CITATION Topnd \l 1033 (Top End Sports, n.d.). As for Chris’ aims, this would be important since wrestling is a sport that requires forward bending and kicking.
Muscle Strength Test
The next mode of evaluation would be a 1 RM deadlift, 1 RM leg press, 1 RM bench press for muscle strength. This kind of assessment would help determine how different muscle groups work in unison with one another. The specifics of this test is described below.
Deadlift activates several big muscle groups such as hamstrings, gluteus maximus and minimus, back muscles such as the latissimus dorsi and others, core muscles (muscles that are closer to the spine needed for stabilization), and trapezius CITATION Heand \l 1033 (Healthline, n.d.). Analysis of the core muscles is of great importance since these will prevent Chris from being out of balance after dodging an attack. Also, if Chris is found to be lacking in this particular aspect, then the training sessions could be oriented more to this.
Leg press assesses the strength of the quadriceps group of muscles, a muscle group that is important in high-velocity kicking or low-velocity kicking. Bench press assesses the strength of the pectoralis major and minor, anterior deltoid, and to some extent, the serratus anterior or also known as the boxer’s muscle. These are important in forceful punching CITATION Heand1 \l 1033 (Healthline, n.d.).
6-minute Walk Test
Wrestling is a sport that utilizes partly the anaerobic system and partly the aerobic-oxidative system. The aerobic system is activated after > or = to 20 minutes of continuous workout CITATION Phy19 \l 1033 (Physiopedia, 2019). On the other hand, anaerobic system is the first system to supply adenosine triphosphate (ATP) during activities. Wrestling does not continuously utilize energy because the contenders sometimes stop or pause or call for a timeout. Thus, doing this assessment would be beneficial to monitor the improvements of Chris tolerance and efficiency in both aerobic and anaerobic activities.
Muscle Endurance
Muscle endurance could be determined through a 1-minute sit-up, push up, and planking routine. Muscle endurance is the ability of a group of muscles of a sustained contraction against a load CITATION Pernd \l 1033 (Personal touch Fitness, n.d.). The target muscles in this recommendation are rectus and trans...
