One aspect of ethical consideration for managers is to understand how to balance expense control with safety and health interests for employees. Sales job at Warehouse Supply is a physically demanding work that should have strong safety standards to meet federal health requirements and eliminate accidents. Allowing Robert to work as a sales representative was an ethical violation because the job posed health risks for him; he is a disabled person in a wheelchair. Marty is the sales manager who administers sales and marketing responsibilities for the company in the district of Denver. Marty’s decision to hire Robert is an ethical violation according to Employment Act. Only qualified and competent candidates should be hired. Robert is in a wheelchair; he cannot perform sales even if he is a good communicator. Even if he is given the van to travel around doing sales, it is impossible to him to reach customers.
Marty as the sales manager ought to have known job requirements and specifications of the job position (sales representative) to be filled in the branch company. Job specifications of a sales representative need candidates who are socially outgoing, enthusiastic, physical fit to move from one place to another, and experienced in sales and marketing. Although, it is a fact that Robert had the above qualities to work as a sales representative, it is unfortunate that he was physically disabled. This implies that he could not effectively move from one place to another to reach and convince customers to buy products.
