Elements that determine the success of a virtual team include interdependent work relationship, effective communication, responsibility sharing, effective leadership and stimulating work. Interdependent work relation ensures that the team members can exchange different knowledge hence guaranteeing new approaches to dealing with any problem. Shared responsibility prevents over-tasking and confusion to the team members.
Contrary, ineffective leadership can lead to failure of a virtual team. This is because; the team members will not have a clear idea about their duties in an organization. There is a likelihood of ambiguities in roles and obligations. Chances are that the some members will feel inferior to their colleagues, hence contributing trivially. Poor communication is likely to create conflict that could be based on racial and cultural differences. Disengagement of the team members could naturally lead to failure since they would remain blind on priorities and goals of the organization.
