Gülru Necipoğlu’s article focuses on the architecture of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople (Istanbul), where the building has undergone various modifications over centuries. The Ottoman Empire Islamized the building and images that reflected its past Christian history were gradually removed or removed. However, some of the iconography in the 20th century is based on the understanding that there was valuable art. Early Ottoman architecture had elements of Byzantine style, but still distinct and reflecting Islamic architecture. I agree with the author’s view as there is a focus on how history, religion, and politics influenced the choice of architectural styles and forms.
James-Chakraborty’s Court and Dwelling in East and Southeast Asia focus on the Chinese architectural system in China and the surrounding area. Chinese architecture influenced the architecture of countries in East and Southeast Asia in the 16th to 19th century, but these countries also maintained unique local architectural systems (James-Chakraborty 208).
