The reading for this reflection is David Papineau's Sports Teams and Spacetime WormsDownload Cultural RelativismDownload Cultural RelativismDownload Cultural Relativism As with all assignments in this class, use of AI is considered academic dishonesty, and you will receive a zero. Every short recap is due by 5pm Sunday of the week the reading/viewing is due. Your short recap score is all or nothing. Follow the directions, and you will receive all of the points. Don't follow the directions, and you will receive zero of the points. Your discussion paper will be 200 to 300 words long. First, you will state the overall thesis the author defends, and you will do it in your own words. This should be one sentence, maybe two at the very most. If you have trouble identifying just one thesis, that is ok. Pick one and be clear about what it is. A thesis is not a question. A thesis is not the author discussing something or considering something or thinking about things. When you state the thesis, it should be a declarative sentence; it should be the author's position on the subject. Second, you will use the remainder of your space to explain the argument the author makes to defend the thesis that you identify. You don't have to capture everything. You need to demonstrate that you read/watched the assigned material and can identify the author's position and how they defend it. The assignment is short. Be clear and concise. Do not use any quotation. If you use any quotation in the short recaps, you will receive a zero. Formatting Times New Roman, 12pt font, 1” margins on all sides, and double-spaced. Do not use any quotation. You can only submit doc or docx formatted documents. Do not try to submit anything else. Don't send me a message with a pages doc. Don't try to upload a jpeg. Don't try to give me a link to a google doc. If you try to submit anything else (other than a doc or pdf), the system will reject it. If you try that, and you miss the deadline, you will not receive credit. ANY use of AI (that includes Grammarly Plus and Chat GPT) for any assignment constitutes plagiarism. In fact, the use of any online study source, e.g. Chegg or Course Hero, constitutes cheating. You are responsible for ensuring that your work is free of any AI. Review the Honor Code and Code of Conduct: https://www(dot)colorado(dot)edu/sccr/students/honor-code-and-student-code-conduct Plagiarism is number one on my hit list. Plagiarism is theft, the presentation of someone else’s ideas as your own (unquoted or uncited). I count as plagiarism copying more than 3-4 words in a row from someone else’s work without proper attribution. This includes paraphrases that are “too close,” i.e., they are exactly like someone else’s sentence(s) but simply replace their words here and there with your synonyms. Plagiarism, for our purposes, also includes drawing from independent (e.g., web) resources to help you with your discussion questions, which are to be done entirely on your own. Let me be clear: in writing any of the assignments for this class, you are supposed to be grappling with the text, and the text alone. If you go on to the web to help you understand or provide insights, then it’s the web that understands, not you, and you will have gained nothing. Philosophical victories in understanding are hard-won, and the only way you learn is if you struggle with the text alone. If I judge that you have plagiarized in any aspect of the course—no matter how small—I will report you to the Honor Board. I take it very seriously—DO NOT DO IT!

Student Name Professor Course Date Article Recap: Sports Teams and Spacetime Worms by David Papineau The author argues that sports teams can be regarded as the same objects through time, even if the groups of people involved in them change gradually, or if their characteristics or their identities change over time, because there is enough continuity of structure and function to treat sports teams as stable entities. To defend this position, Papineau draws an analogy between the identity of sports teams and philosophical problems regarding the persistence problem for objects through time. He gets stuck first with his experience; the Old Talbotians cricket team, which changed over the years as regards both the players and...
