There have been various rebellions in New York City (NYC) as no group wanted to be dominated by other people and wanted their place in NYC respected. As early as the seventeenth century the English and Dutch were antagonistic to each other. New York is a place of transplants from other parts of the US and immigrants from other parts of the world. The Dutch resented the British domination of Ney York. Jacob Leisler one of the rich merchants in 17th century New York led a rebellion that pitted the British and colonists and there was growing tension between the landholders and merchants. Dissatisfaction with leaders and legislators remains one of the reasons why NYC is associated with rebellion.
