Summary
The article starts with an introduction that brings to light, agile project management. Here, agile principles are touted as the preferred approach to accomplishing tasks in set timelines. Adaptations of certain frameworks like the Zimmerman framework into agile principles are touted as an avenue to success. These principles could also be utilized by individuals, and thus the article focuses on the agility effect and its impact on my learning style and how its use could be of great help in the future.
The next section develops an argument from Zimmerman’s article. The argument is that self-regulation techniques are fuelled by the focus on specific and clearly defined goals. These goals are supported by someone’s belief in themselves or self-efficacy as well as leadership of oneself or discipline and commitment.
The learning styles have been greatly impacted by the current pandemic. I find myself struggling to adapt to learning online and getting distracted while learning. However, after applying some practical aspects like using a pen and paper to note down crucial points, I have been able to retain knowledge for longer periods.
Lastly, the future action plan section provides an in-depth analysis of how agile management, through the application of the scrum framework, can be used to develop a career plan.
Introduction(Modify the intro according to the whole article)
Agile project management has become an essential component of managing tasks efficiently. With the adaptation of an appropriate framework like Zimmerman framework, different tasks can be broken down into multiple stages. Organizations and individuals can apply agile principles in their projects for achieving the desired results within a specific time frame. The project processes can be guided and managed effectively using agile project management approach. The use of agile principles, however, requires one to be flexible and responsive. Essentially, this means that one has to be willing to open their mind to new ideas and approaches to situations. Also, one has to be goal-oriented, strategic, disciplined, and showcase self-efficacy. In this article, I discuss how agility affects my learning style in enhancing my skill set and managing the assigned tasks. The utilization of agility approach will help in my career plan and achieving future growth.

While reading the chapter by Barry Zimmerman, one is able to grasp the reason why people are different in life as well as their levels of doing things. In the article, Zimmerman offers a self-regulatory perspective of academics and life. He defines self-regulation as “self-regulated thoughts, feelings, and actions that are planned and cyclically adapted to the attainment of personal goals.” The definition is straightforward. However, from it, one is able to gather that the energy dispensed on self-regulation has to be focused on a particular goal. Without a goal, one cannot claim to be practicing self-regulation. There has to be a specific destination and one that must be clearly defined as is clearly outlined in the self-regulatory technique of goal-setting.
Setting a goal works side by side with the aspect of believing in oneself. Throughout the article, Zimmerman mentions self-efficacy as the glue to ensuring that people maintain their commitment to the self-regulatory techniques. With regard to students and academic performance, Zimmerman notes that “students who perceive themselves as efficacious on a task are more motivated to use known self-regulatory methods.” The belief in oneself and in one’s capacity or capability to reach a target has a greater impact on whether a goal will be attained or not. It is possible to employ all the nine self-regulatory techniques but still fail to get the desired results. However, belief in oneself is the key to believing in the process and in getting the results.
Lastly, the attribute of leadership is also crucial, especially one that is heavily grounded on responsibility and discipline for the above to be fruitful. Zimmerman’s self-regulatory perspective is indeed a masterpiece. However, in topic 3, while learning about leadership as a person, I got a different understanding of the trait of responsibility. Being responsible because of one’s position is different from being responsible for oneself. Applying self-regulatory techniques in one’s life requires one to be disciplined. Achieving one’s goals will become an elusive endeavor if one is not responsible to themselves. This calls for a disciplined life and one that is focused on the goals.

Under the influence of COVID-19, we will take online courses at home throughout the semester. Online learning has some advantages. We can use computers to quickly query information and more easily understand what we are learning. As an international student, English is my second language. Due to accent or speed, I cannot always understand what the teacher is saying. Now, I can use the lesson videos to help me review what the teacher said. Online courses require self-study to a large extent.
