America, over the years, witnessed deteriorating relationships between local communities and agencies tasked with enforcing the law. The Taskforce, commissioned by President Barack Obama in 2014, aimed to come up with best practices and recommendations to enhance policing practices while maintaining high levels of public trust. Consequently, such changes would ultimately reduce the rates of crimes in local communities.
The recommendations of the Taskforce include several changes in how law enforcement authorities should interact with members of their communities.
